Mary's Birthday 2002

BACK

Mary's birthday weekend started out with parachuting over Napa. OK, nobody jumped out of the plane, but I've got her rip cord ready to go.

And we actually flew out of Sonoma.

Our tip took us over the vineyards of Napa and Sonoma and for a few acrobatic loops and barrel rolls. Funny enough, my hands were too busy during the vertical stall to get a picture of the terror. Here's a nice calm vineyard to look at.

I'm smiling now that I'm back on the ground!

Our next stop was a little piece of Africa right in the middle of Sonoma. We spent the rest of the weekend at Safari West. They've got 400 acres of animals that don't belong here. No, not her. The giraffe.

The cool part is you can stay in safari huts like this one. Ours was right next to the giraffe pen. Good thing they don't make much noise in the morning.

Golden Pheasant - apparently this colorful bird may have been the inspiration for some Chinese dragon mythology.
